Back by popular demand, Catrinas en Mi Ciudad is an immersive, outdoor art exhibit inspired by Mexico's Día de Muertos that will feature larger-than-life art pieces. The exhibit will also feature the work of Colorado Latino artists who, through their own art form and technique, will share some of Día de Muertos' most special traditions.

This year, Catrinas en Mi Ciudad has a new collaboration with After Light: a Naming Wall interactive artwork projected on The Ellie Caulkins Opera House. Visitors can submit the name of someone they want to remember and watch that name in light against the beautiful architecture of the Ellie.

The month-long exhibit will be filled with art, culture and celebration. Watch as the Mile High City and the Arts Complex are filled with the vibrant colors that adorn the various pieces.

Catrinas en Mi Ciudad | Barriletes Workshop

October 10

Adults and kids can learn to make their own barrilete (kite) with Guatemalan artist Mynor Ovidio Xicon Simon.

The hand-crafted barriletes serve as a sacred, colorful bridge of communication between the living and their deceased ancestors during the Day of the Dead. The barriletes act as spiritual channels. It is believed that the higher the kites fly, the closer the attached messages get to reaching loved ones and ancestors in heaven. The sky serves as a bridge to the spirit world. The vibrant colors and specific designs help guide returning spirits to their families.
